Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the popular band 3 Doors Down, has announced that he has been diagnosed with stage four kidney cancer.
The 46-year-old artist said in a video posted on Instagram that he has “clear cell carcinoma of the kidney, which has spread to the lungs,” adding: “And this is stage four, which is not good at all.”
The group rose to fame in the early 2000s with hits like Kryptonite, Here Without You and It’s Not My Time, and has sold over 13 million albums in the US alone.
“I now believe that It’s Not My Time is truly my song,” Arnold wrote to fans in the caption accompanying the video. “This is going to be a battle, so we need our prayer warriors!”
3 Doors Down rose from the state of Mississippi, gaining recognition with the song Kryptonite, which reached number three in the US in 2000.
Their debut album The Better Life was the 11th best-selling album of the year in the US.
The group returned to the top five with the singles “Here Without You” and “When I’m Gone” in 2002, and reached the top of the US charts with the albums “Seventeen Days” (2005) and “3 Doors Down” (2008).
They also performed at President Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony in 2017.
