Guardians All-Star adds gold ring to his collection of Gold Gloves with pre-Valentine’s wedding

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Steven Kwan has flashed a Gold Glove in left field since arriving with the Guardians in 2022, but the 2024 All-Star recently added a gold ring to the mix after wedding longtime partner Samantha Moy on Feb. 5 in Chicago.

Kwan, 27, and Moy were married during a small civil ceremony attended by family at City Hall. Kwan posted pictures on his Instagram account two days later with the message: “To a lifetime, you and I

The intimate affair came at the end of a whirlwind 10 months for Moy, who had attended nine weddings since May.

“She had just been through so many, so we just had a really small thing,” Kwan said. “It was awesome with family, it was really special, very intentional.”

The two announced their engagement in November, with Kwan sharing on social media: “It was always you Sammy! So excited to continue this journey with you wherever life takes us. Love you eternally and whatever is beyond!

Since it began playing as a major league team in Cleveland in 1901, it has won six AL pennants and two World Series titles, the first in 1920 and the second in 1948. It changed its name from the Indians to the Guardians in 2022.

Origins and first World Series title

The team began as a minor league club based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and moved to Cleveland in 1900. The team was elevated to major league status in 1901 and was called the Cleveland Bluebirds, or Blues. They became the Cleveland Bronchos in 1902 before taking on the name “Naps” the following year in honor of their new star player, Nap Lajoie.

In 1915 owner Charles Somers requested that local newspapers pick a new name for the franchise, and “Indians” was chosen. In 1916 the team traded for Tris Speaker, who led the Indians to their first World Series championship in 1920.
