The closer that an album sounds to an utterly unparsable wall of noise, the more the details matter. Finland’s Hexerei are all about these details: from carefully adding five periods to their new album Realms……‘s title to just how expansively their vocal reverb drapes over their hideous, ornate black metal, precision proves to be the factor that elevates their imposing approach. Avoiding a complete descent into sonic stew while still sounding dangerously chaotic, Realms…..creates an immersive, atmospheric assault of bizarre, martial music.
We’re premiering the track “Omenstorm Massacre” ahead of the album’s release On this eight-minute track, Hexerei punctuate their brazen acts of aggression with blown-out drums calling up a double-time march. The brief introductory ambience is about all the track reserves for quietude, using much of its runtime to stomp through undulating dissonant war cries and generally only taking a break to heighten the creeping tension. Riffs are the driving element here, as cloaked in madness as they are, and offer some insight into the uncouth delights that await on the full-length.
