March Madness: Gator Nation reacts to Florida’s comeback win vs. Texas Tech in Elite Eight

Florida basketball’s wild comeback to beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 84-79 and punch a ticket to the Final Four had social media in a frenzy.

Down 71-61 with six minutes left, the Gators closed on an 18-4 run sparked by clutch threes and near-perfect free-throw shooting. Fans couldn’t believe the turnaround–or Tech’s collapse.

Thomas Haugh, the Gators’ savior in this Elite Eight battle, had a key offensive rebound and three-point shot on the same possession that completely shifted the momentum in favor of the Orange and Blue. Walter Clayton Jr. also played a major role in orchestrating the Gators’ comeback win, knocking down shots when they mattered most.

Head coach Todd Golden and his Gators squad are moving on to the Final Four, and Gator Nation couldn’t be more proud of this talented group.

The Florida Gators advanced to the Elite 8 in the West Region of the 2025 NCAA Tournament with an 87-71 win over the Maryland Terrapins out in San Francisco on Thursday.

It was not easy for Todd Golden’s top-seeded team, who battled back and forth with the Terps for the first half of the game. Ultimately, the Orange and Blue simply had too much for fourth-seeded Maryland, as our own David Rosenberg predicted, using its deep bench to overcome the brief loss of Alex Condon to an ankle injury.

“The Gators have one of the deepest rosters in the country and likely to outlast their opponent until the conditioning fails,” he prophesized in our Gators Wire expert opinions roundtable.

Fortunately for Florida fans, everything worked out for the Gators. Who they face next is still in the balance as of the time of publication, but the media and fanbase alike are already ecstatic over Thursday night’s results as well as what might be in store ahead.
