Poker face has featured an Elvis impersonator, but what about a Bob seger impersonator? If season 2 showrunner Tony Tost has his way, it will happen.
Tost, who stepped in and took over showrunner duties from Season 1’s lilla and nora zuckerman, tells Entertainment Weekly that, although a third season of the mystery-of-the-week series is not officially a go at Peacock, he has some very specific ideas about what he’d like to see should it be greenlit.
“One character idea that I pitched for season 2 that we never got around to for some reason, I would love to have an episode where a Bob Seger impersonator appears,” he says of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, adding, “We’ve seen Elvis impersonators, but a Bob Seger impersonator for some reason delights me.”
Tost, who previously created the western series Damnation, says he’d also like to see natasha lyonne’s leading lady Charlie Cale stop by “maybe a country music honky-tonk would be fun. Maybe Charlie line dancing or something like that.” Basically, he says, “These little pockets of Americana like that I would love to explore.”
Season 2, which just debuted with its first three episodes on Peacock last Thursday, finds Charlie once more on the run. Armed with just her 1969 Plymouth Barracuda and her inexplicable talent for always knowing when someone is lying, she again finds herself embroiled with strange characters and even stranger cases she can’t help but solve. Adventures this time around pit her up against everything from a meth gator to possibly psychopathic children, and B.J. Novak as an acid trip-induced mascot.
Guest stars still to come include Alia Shawkat, Awkwafina, Carol Kane, Justin Theroux, Melanie Lynskey, Kumail Nanjiani, John Cho, and many more. But Tost knows who he’d like to tap next time around.
“I’m a big pro wrestling guy, and so I love the idea of an episode of finding Charlie in the world of independent pro wrestling. That is something that I was trying to find, but didn’t quite crack in season 2,” he explains. “I’ve worked with, and I’m friends with paul walter hauser, who also moonlights as an actual independent wrestler. I went and saw him jump off a ladder onto a table, elbow-drop a guy a couple weekends ago with real blood spewing from his forehead. That would be a lot of fun.” Your move, Peacock.
