Shohei Ohtani’s Dodgers plan revolution: could trade three players by February 21

The Los Angeles Dodgers are not resting on their laurels after their dominant 2024 season and are already looking ahead to solidifying their roster for the 2025 campaign.

With their sights firmly set on defending their World Series title, the Dodgers have been active in the offseason, acquiring several high-profile free agents and continuing to make moves to bolster their squad.

As teams and players prepare to reconvene for spring training on February 21, some significant changes could be in store for the Dodgers‘ roster.

Potential trades looming

In a move that raised eyebrows, the Dodgers recently traded Gavin Lux to the Cincinnati Reds, signaling that the team is ready to shake up its roster.

With rumors circulating about other potential moves, three players could find themselves on the trade block before spring training.

Miguel Rojas, the versatile shortstop who struggled to secure a consistent role in 2024, might find himself elsewhere in 2025. Rojas played part-time at shortstop, with Mookie Betts stepping into the position for stretches during the season.

Despite posting a solid .283 batting average and a .337 on-base percentage, Rojas’ limited role and a $5 million player option could make him an attractive trade candidate.

The Dodgers may decide to free up space for other players and make a deal that benefits both parties financially.

Another player whose future with the team is uncertain is Chris Taylor. After a lackluster 2024 season, where he posted a .202 batting average with only four home runs in 213 plate appearances, Taylor’s struggles were evident.

Given his underperformance, the Dodgers may look to part ways with him in favor of bringing in fresh talent that could contribute more consistently.

James Outman, who saw much of the 2024 season spent in Triple-A due to a slump in performance, could also be on the move.

After a strong rookie season in 2023, Outman failed to maintain his momentum in 2024, and with players like Tommy Edman performing well, Outman may find himself excluded from the Dodgers’ plans for 2025.
