The Duke Blue Devils have only played two conference opponents so far this men’s basketball season, but freshman superstar Cooper Flagg and his teammates look like heavy favorites for the ACC regular-season crown.
Duke beat Louisville and Georgia Tech in two road games earlier this month by a combined 37 points, overcoming a double-digit deficit against the Cardinals before building one of its own against the Yellow Jackets. Pair those victories with a non-conference triumph over the Auburn Tigers and five early losses from the North Carolina Tar Heels, and the preseason favorites look like a potential runaway train.
The Tar Heels aren’t the only presumed challengers in the conference off to an underwhelming start, so the toughest tests on Duke’s schedule look a little different than the preseason expectations. And while North Carolina might not push the Blue Devils for a title as much as before, the Tar Heels certainly aren’t pushovers either.

Pittsburgh lost Blake Hinson and Carlton Carrington this offseason, but the step back expected to coincide with those departures hasn’t come yet for the Panthers. Pitt won seven of its first eight games, including an overtime victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes, and Ishmael Leggett is sixth in the conference with 17.5 points per game.
